The Nativity Window The Christmas window depicts the birth of Christ. Mary holds her newborn baby while the shepherds look on. The top medallion is the star that later led the wise men to Bethlehem. As you look at the stable, the timbers actually form a cross. Jesus was born to die. Even His name, which means "the Lord saves," reminds us of His purpose in coming to this world. By His birth, Jesus had begun the saving mission that would culminate at the cross. Below the manger is a shepherd's staff with a baby lamb. Jesus is both the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world and the Good Shepherd. The two medallions at the top of the window represent that Jesus is the Alpha and Omega (first and last letters of the Greek alphabet). Even though Jesus is born, He is from eternity. As John's Gospel states: "In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God... The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us" (John 1:1, 14) |
